New?

QUT Christians is a friendly place to explore faith and meet people.

Starting Fresh

If you’re new to uni, or new to Christianity — or just checking things out — you’re very welcome to join us. You don’t need to have it all figured out, and there’s no pressure to pretend you do.

Many students arrive at uni with questions about life, purpose, and faith. Christianity answers those questions by focussing on the good news of Jesus. At QUT Christians, your questions are taken seriously, and you’re invited to explore them together.

Uni can be exciting – and also feel a bit overwhelming. The people, routines, questions about who you are and what matters. But you don’t have to do it alone. QUT Christians is a friendly place to explore faith, and find friendships and support that makes the journey easier.

What to expect

Here’s what usually happens when you come along to something QUT Christians related:

  • You’ll be greeted by friendly students (we remember what it’s like to be new!)
  • There’s time to chat, hang out, and get to know people
  • We might read a part of the Bible or hear a talk
  • You can listen, ask questions, or just observe — that’s completely fine

You won’t be put on the spot, asked to pray, or expected to sign up for anything. Many people come once or twice just to see what it’s like.

You’re at uni for more than a degree

What if uni isn’t just about your degree, but discovering something bigger? Your plans, your future – they’re not meant to be detached from the one who made you.

Joining QUT Christians is like finding solid ground. We’ll help you lift your eyes up from uni’s daily hustle to see Jesus, the one who gives meaning to it all.

Get Connected

I’m an international student — is this for me?

Yes! Uni can feel especially unfamiliar if you’re new to Australia. We have a group especially for international students, and many also take part in our other meetings.

It’s a welcoming place to meet people, make friends, and explore Christianity alongside others. We aim to create spaces where you can feel at home and get connected at uni.

Common Questions

Yes! QUT Christians is affiliated with the Student Guild as an official group.

Of course you can come! Uni is a place to explore ideas and we welcome everyone to explore the claims of Jesus with us. We don’t expect prior knowledge or experience, and we enjoy discussions where you can ask any questions.

You’re very welcome to come – regardless of your experience of church (or if you have no experience of church!). QUT Christians is a place to discover more about Jesus and find a friendly community.

We want our members to be part of a local church. It’s a critical part of spiritual growth for all Christians, whatever their life stage. So what’s the point of a Christian uni group?

We want to take advantage of the opportunities that university offers: a time and a place to equip students to know Jesus and make him known on campus. For those who don’t know Jesus, we’re a space to explore the meaning of life and ask hard questions. And for Christians, it’s an amazing training ground for learning and discipleship. You’ll dive deep into the Bible, pray for each other, and gain confidence to tell people about Jesus. Wherever you’re at, QUT Christians is a community to walk alongside you at university.

AFES stands for the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students. We’re a movement of student groups from across the country, associated with IFES (the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students).

That’s okay! We understand the pressures on uni students – exams, assignments, work, and more – but making time to invest in friendships and faith is also important. We have a few activities throughout the week, try to come to at least one. You’ll find more benefit in gathering with others in community than being on your own. And it makes time at uni more fun!
There are also opportunities to connect outside of semesters, including a Mid-Year Conference, National Training Event, and more.

Totally valid question. There’s an increased awareness of questionable high pressure groups operating on university campuses. At QUT Christians we’re never okay with manipulating or coercing people. We strive for transparency: we openly name our beliefs, affiliations and leaders, and are affiliated with the Student Guild and have the support of Chaplaincy on campus.

A helpful resource is available from QUT Chaplaincy: a guide to identifying High Pressure Religious Groups. This can be found on the QUT internal website or contact the QUT Chaplain.
